The rule is much the same everywhere: I'm welcome outdoors, in the park and on the ramparts, but not inside the castle itself. At 12 of the places that's stated explicitly, and at 12 I have to be on a leash. None of them let me indoors – so don't count on it.

In return, the gardens are often the best part of the visit: Egeskov, Valdemars Slot, Fredensborg Palace Garden, Jægerspris, Gavnø, Gisselfeld, Marselisborg and the Romantic Garden. And the ruins are yours to wander – Hammershus on Bornholm, Kalø, Gurre and Asserbo. Do remember that rules can change – give the place a ring if we're driving a long way.
