North Zealand is castle country: I'm allowed into the grounds of 6 of them – Fredensborg Palace Garden, Jægerspris, Esrum Abbey and the ruins at Gurre and Asserbo. There are also 4 museums, among them the Rudolph Tegner Museum & Statue Park, where the sculptures stand out in the heather, and the Danish Museum of Science and Technology.

If you're hungry, there are 4 dog-friendly cafés and restaurants, including Café Havestuen, Bryggeri Skovlyst and Sticks'n'Sushi in Rungsted. Note that at 10 of the places I'm only welcome outdoors – in the garden and on the terrace, not inside. Do remember that rules can change – give the place a ring if you're unsure.
